Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in Nevada

Official proclamation from the State of Nevada Executive Department issued by the Governor.

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes that adult education and family literacy are fundamental to fostering individual prosperity, strengthening communities, and building a skilled workforce; and

WHEREAS, millions of adults in the United States lack basic literacy, numeracy, and digital skills, limiting their ability to succeed in the workforce, support their families, and participate fully in society; and

WHEREAS, the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA), originally enacted in 1998 as part of the Workforce Investment Act and now under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), provides vital funding and support to programs that serve adult learners across the nation; and  

WHEREAS, adult education programs strengthen communities by helping individuals attain high school equivalency credentials, improve English language proficiency, transition to postsecondary education, and achieve sustainable employment; and

WHEREAS, family literacy programs empower parents to be their children's first teachers, fostering a culture of learning that spans generations; and

WHEREAS, Adult Education and Family Literacy Week is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of adult learners, recognize the dedication of educators and volunteers, and raise awareness about the importance of investing in adult education; 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOE LOMBARDO, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim September 14 - 19, 2026

ADULT EDUCATION AND FAMILY LITERACY WEEK IN NEVADA
